UNIPS - University Pedagogical Support

Tampere University
Duration of project1.1.2017–31.12.2019

The University Pedagogical Support (UNIPS) project is coordinated by the University of Turku and funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Finland). UNIPS is a so-called government key project and part of a larger thematic project called Enhancing pedagogical and digital teaching and supervision skills in higher education.

The purpose of the UNIPS project is to develop a digital learning platform that offers university teachers, doctoral students and academic staff, who have teaching duties and an interest in teaching and learning, the opportunity to study university pedagogy. The UNIPS platform is open access and developed in collaboration between eight Finnish universities. It allows students (university teachers etc.) to easily and flexibly pursue small English-taught modules in university pedagogy according to their personal needs. All the learning materials created during the project (learning videos etc.) are available for independent study.

As part of the project, we have designed and piloted multiple UNIPS modules (1 ECTS) at the different universities that are involved in the project. At Tampere Universities at least the following UNIPS modules are available during the academic year 2018-2019: How to Plan My Course, Competency-Based Teaching and Curriculum, Creating and Utilizing Working Life Contacts, Becoming a Teacher, Lecturing and Expertise, and How to Plan My Teaching. These are all online courses taught in English and they are open to university teachers, doctoral students and other personnel with teaching duties.
