Tampere University
Duration of project1.9.2019–31.8.2021
Area of focusSociety

In this research project we examine how working conditions, social structures of different fields of work and psychological basic needs are connected to technology acceptance and what is the relationship of technological reforms to the perceived threat of technological unemployment.

Our research data comes from the Quality of work life survey by Statistics Finland, which was complemented by a section about robotics and artificial intelligence. Our results were evaluated with professionals from varied labor market organizations and our aim was to produce a model for "well robotized work" as well as provide measures for ensuring that technological reforms are guided in a positive direction through management of change.

Background

In technological development Finland represents the international peak in some sectors whereas on others, technological reforms are requiring a push in the right direction. Well coordinated and societally accepted technological reforms have the prequisites to create a positive cycle, where all parties benefit from reforms of work processes. As new technology and robots enter into the area of services we ask, how are work and working conditions changing and is this development societally acceptable.
