Organisation, Implementation and Evaluation of Practical Training in Finland
1 Purpose
The purpose of these guidelines is to define a uniform procedure for implementation, supervision and evaluation of practical training (clinical training in health care) and collection of related feedback at Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK). These guidelines apply to practical/clinical training carried out in Finland. Some degree programmes may further specify these guidelines.
2 Definitions
Practical training refers to practical training which belongs to a degree programme curriculum of the university of applied sciences, varies between 30-120 credits in scope depending on the degree programme, and is divided into periods of different lengths.
The supervising teacher refers to the teacher who is responsible for supervision of your or your student group's practical training and contacts between the training place and the university of applied sciences.
The training supervisor refers to the person who supervises your practical training in the training place. If necessary, the training supervisor is familiarised with his/her supervision tasks.
3 Practical Training Process
Orientation to Practical Training
The general purpose of practical training is that students in a supervised manner acquaint themselves with the key practical work assignments especially from the viewpoint of professional studies as well as with application of knowledge and skills in working life.
Practical training is target-oriented and supervised learning. We define practical training objectives and assignments separately for each practical training period in the degree programme. They are discussed in the orientation to practical training.
Credit Transfer for Practical Training
TAMK's general credit transfer guidelines for competence are followed in credit transfer for practical training.
Applying for Training Places in Health Care and Social Services
In the field of health care and social services TAMK negotiates the training places with organisations. The training places mainly open online at Jobiili, where you reserve your place for the agreed period of time during the given time. All training places are however not within the system. Their reservation is agreed on by you after ensuring from the supervising teacher that the place is suitable. If health care and social services students want to complete their training as salaried (see separate instructions), they have to acquire the training place by themselves.
Applying for Training Places in Other Fields of Study
In other fields of study, you search for training places by yourself, usually by asking a training place directly from organisations. You enrol through PAKKI. The supervising teacher accepts the training place for the practical training period and signs the training agreement.
Practical Training Abroad
There are separate English guidelines and forms available at https://intra.tuni.fi/en/handbook?page=2117
Training Agreement in Health Care
A student-based supervision compensation is paid to the training place for health care and social service students' clinical training. TAMK has both fixed-term and permanent training agreements with training places in which TAMK's students regularly complete their clinical training. If you start the clinical training in an organisation in which TAMK's students only occasionally complete their clinical training, the supervising teacher has to make sure the agreement is valid.
Training Agreement in Other Fields of Study
In other fields of study, compensation is not paid to training places for supervision of students. A training agreement is concluded. You fill in the agreement and ask for the necessary signatures.
Request all parties’ digital signatures on the agreement by using the AtomiSign. Sign in with Microsoft. Click "New signing request", fill in the requested information and add the agreement to be signed. At Options, select “SMS authentication” as the authentication method. At “Participants”, enter the contact information of yourself, the supervising teacher and the training supervisor. Send the request. If necessary, you can find more detailed instructions below:
