Tampere University Student's Handbook

Mentoring for doctoral students

The University organises mentoring programmes for doctoral researchers. The purpose of mentoring programmes is to give the participants a more senior partner (mentor) with whom the mentee (actor) may discuss new perspectives related, for example, to the mentee’s knowledge and skills, career goals and personal growth. The mentor can help the mentee crystallise his/her goals, share knowledge and experiences and provide tools or tips for the mentee on advancing in one’s career and pursuing one’s goals. Mentoring is based on a dialogue and informal and confidential interaction.

One-to-one meetings between the mentor and mentee are the core of the mentoring programme. Thematic group meetings structure the programmes.
