Certificates and confirmations for exchange students
To confirm the length of the exchange study period, many exchange students (especially Erasmus+ students) have different certificates, confirmations or other similar forms from their home university which must be signed and stamped at Tampere University by the host faculty and / or by the International Mobility Services. Usually, these documents are called certificate of attendance, confirmation of stay, or similar.
A few things to keep in mind
- Before contacting us, please always double-check first with your home university what type of document they need (e.g. regarding the length of your exchange period), as the requirements vary from university to university.
- We recommend that you use the documents provided by your home university. In case your home university does not have their own document for this purpose, Tampere University offers one template that can also be used to confirm your stay (please see the end of this page: Tampere University Confirmation of Stay form).
- We kindly ask you to pre-fill the documents before delivering them to us.
- Please note that Tampere University’s official transcript of records or certificate of student status do not include the dates of your exchange study period. Instead, they include the dates of your study right (= the dates between which your study right is valid).
When can I get the certificate?
- Start of studies: The earliest day when we can sign any documents confirming the start of your exchange studies is the first day of the Welcome Week, because that is when your exchange study period officially starts. In other words, we are not able to sign any documents in advance before the Welcome Week or confirm any earlier dates as the start of studies.
- End of studies: The documents confiming the end of your exchange study period may not be signed earlier than one week before your date of departure / end date of studies.
- Please remember to take care of all the documents early enough especially at the end of your stay, as it might take several days to get the signatures/stamps from your mobility coordinator. In addition, please note that there is a delay in replying to emails during the holiday seasons (e.g. around Christmas as well as between the end of June and the beginning of August).
Dates for exchange studies
The purpose of the certificate is to confirm the actual studying dates for your exchange study period. As a result, earlier dates than the first day of the Welcome Week or later dates than the end of the teaching period can be confirmed only exceptionally for appropriate reasons (e.g. if the exchange student is actually provenly working on their studies at Tampere University after the end of the teaching period). The dates cannot be extended to another semester for which you do not have a valid right of study.
Depending on your situation, the following dates can be confirmed on the certificates:
Start of studies
- the first day of the Welcome Week
- the day of your arrival (if you arrive after the first day of the Welcome Week)
End of studies
- the end of the teaching period
- the end of your studies (e.g. the last exam you take or the last lecture you attend)
- the day of your departure (if you leave before the end of the teaching period)
