Orientation to studies
Your studies at Tampere University start with a Welcome Week, organised this year during 19 - 23 August 2024. The Welcome Week will offer you a lot of necessary and useful information for planning your studies, on practical arrangements for studies at Tampere University, services available to students and e.g. activities offered by our many student clubs and associations. In addition to getting important information that will help you start your studies, you will also get to meet your student group for the first time as well as start to get to know your teachers during this week.
The Welcome Week is mandatory for all new degree students.
The common events for all starting international degree students (regardless of your programme) are listed below. Please follow the Welcome Week Moodle (opens on 8 August 2024) for more details and remember that the faculties and programmes have their specific Welcome Week programmes, too.
The common programme for the week:
1) Monday, 19 August 2024
10 am – 12 noon, info session for new incoming international degree students/Zoom
The basics for starting your studies. The link to the Zoom as well as the recording of the info will both be made available in the Welcome Week Moodle.
In the info we will talk about things such as: where to find information, registration as a student, the academic calendar, planning your studies, curricula and teaching schedules, credits and grading. The Finnish language teachers will also join the info to talk about language studies. Please note that this is not the agenda, but rather topics and themes for the info session.
2) Tuesday-Wednesday, 20-21 August 2024
10 am – 3 pm, Service Fair – city centre & Hervanta campuses
Services from the campuses as well as for example TREY & the city of Tampere will be present at the fair

3) Thursday, 22 August 2024
No common programme.
4) Friday, 23 August 2024
2 pm – 3 pm, 2nd info session for new incoming international degree students/Zoom
As on Monday, the link to the Zoom as well as the recording of the info will both be made available in the Welcome Week Moodle.
We will talk about things such as: arrival related matters, student services, guidance and counselling instances at the university and where to get advice during your studies. Please note that this is not the agenda, but rather topics and themes for the info session.

4.30 pm – 6.30 pm, sightseeing tour for new international degree students
Buses for the tour leave from city centre campus. You can attend regardless of your home campus. The tour is free of charge. N.B. You need to register for the sightseeing tour in the Welcome Week Moodle. The registration is open from 14 August 9 am to 20 August 11.45 pm. The spaces are limited and if they are filled up earlier, the registration will close earlier. ONLY register if you are sure, you will attend!

Follow the Welcome Week Moodle on any additional activities.
In addition to this, you will have infos and starting sessions arranged by your programme and/or faculty. These may take place live on campus or online. Please follow the communication of your own programme/faculty regarding this. You will receive information on the programme specific events by email and the first programme specific events will be listed in the Welcome Week Moodle (opens 8 Aug 2024) as well.
The student Union TREY and different associations have a lot of programme during the week, too. The links and other information can be found in the Welcome Week Moodle.
After the Welcome Week, your orientation to studies at Tampere University will continue with introductory studies. The introductory studies, the title and content of which may vary slightly by programme, will include more detailed information on how to plan your studies and how to study and work efficiently at Tampere University as well as an introduction to intercultural communication, career planning and working in Finland. For more detailed information on the specific content of your introductory studies, please see the curriculum of your programme.
