University students who are entitled to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) have been required since January 2021 to pay a student healthcare fee to Kela for each academic term. All students who are registered as attending for the current term and are studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree are entitled to FSHS services. You are not billed for the student healthcare fee but must make sure to pay it in OmaKela for each academic term. For further information and payment instructions, please visit Kela's page How to pay the student healthcare fee.

Scholarships and tuition fee payment after the first year of studies

Please note if you are liable to pay tuition fees, you cannot enrol for the next academic year until your scholarship has been continued or you have paid the tuition fee.

Pay online with Flywire

Degree students

All university students are required to enrol either as attending or absent for each academic year in order to retain their right to study. Students who fail to enrol by the enrolment deadline lose their right to pursue studies at Tampere University. The deadline for enrolling for the academic year 2024 - 2025 is 5 September 2024.

If you intend to complete studies, enrol as attending. Only students who are enrolled as attending can take part in education provided by the University, complete exams and graduate.

Students who enrol as absent do not have to pay the Student Union membership fee. If the absence is due to a cause prescribed in law, a related certificate must be submitted to the Student Affairs Office.

Students who accepted their place at the University on 1 August 2015 or later can enrol as absent during their studies:

  • For one academic year (two academic semesters) without a cause prescribed in law
  • For an unlimited period for causes prescribed in law (military service based on the Finnish Conscription Act, the Non-Military Service Act or the act on voluntary military service for women, or a maternity, paternity or parental leave). If your absence is due to one of these reasons, you must produce related proof or a certificate (such as a military passport or a certificate on a maternity, paternity or parental allowance period by the Finnish Social Insurance Institution KELA) to avoid the period of absence from being counted towards your time-to-degree.
