About me

Dr. Svetlana Shenderova is a researcher, expert and consultant in higher education policies, university governance and degree programme management (internationalisation focus). She started her career in academia and administration in 1989 as department secretary, and then held the positions of lecturer, associate professor, deputy dean, department head, and director of a research centre in nine Russian universities. Besides Svetlana has implemented numerous research, training and consulting projects. In particular, she has investigated of EU-Russian joint programmes as a Key Expert II for the EU Delegation to Russia. As a member of the EDUneithbours team (PI Dr. Soc. Sc. Sirke Mäkinen) she conducted individual researh of institutional environments of Finnish-Russian double degrees in the context of university governance, national internationalisation policies and EU-Russia relations. Currently Dr. Shenderova is a researcher affiliated with the Higher Education Group, Administrative Studies, and a member of International Political Economy Research Group, Politics Unit, Faculty of Management and Business, Tampere University, Finland. Svetlana holds the degrees Doctor of Economics (St. Petersburg State University of Economics, 2012), Candidate of Economics (St Petersburg State University, 1997), and Diploma with Highest Honours in Political Economy (St. Petersburg State University, 1993). 

Responsibilities

Researcher, EDUneighbours: Towards Good Neighbourliness with Higher Education Cooperation: Finnish-Russian Research and Action Project (PI Dr.Soc.Sc. Sirke Mäkinen)

Sub-project study of institutional environments of Finnish-Russian double degree programmes including university governance and degree programme management in the context of current EU-Russia relations and internationalisation of higher education.

Fields of expertise

Over 30 years of academic, administrative, expert, training and consulting experience in higher education. Comparative higher education studies comprise supra/regional/national policies and university governance (internationalisation focus). Extensive background in qualitative research including interviews with university stakeholders, government officers and representatives of iagencies in international education. Strong capability to work and coordinate within multi- cultural/disciplinary research teams combined with high level of independency in research. Vast experience in trainings and workshops for academics and administrators. Passionate about learning new university cultures. 

Geographical scope (special focuses): EHEA; EU (Finland and Poland); EaP (Ukraine); ENP Southern Partnership (Israel); SCO (Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, China). 

Dissertations in higher education political economy and public sector economics. Experience in university governance, internationalisation strategy development and implementation at individual, programme, division and central levels. Scientific production in the last five years: 13 publications in peer-reviewed journals, books and professional media, 17 presentations at conferences and seminars.
