The course consists of lectures, exercises and course works. There are three mandatory exercises in the course. Exercise 1 deals with the stability calculations, and exercise 2 with settlement calculations for the same case. Exercise 3 consists of the geotechnical design of a supported excavation. The exercises must be completed before the (compulsory) exam. |
Learning Outcomes
After completing the course the student can; 1) List the most important factors influencing slope stability 2) Do slope stability analysis with a calculation program and evaluate the result 3) List different settlement calculation methods and evaluate their suitability 4) Calculate settlement with calculation program and evaluate the results 5) Explain the relationship between earth pressure and displacements 6) Calculate stresses and deformations on a retaining wall with a calculation program and evaluate the results.
