Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course the student - recognises the concept of transport transformation and the related key concepts, has understanding of the issues relevant for transport transformation and has developed skills in discussing transport transformation in English - recognizes theories and frameworks related to transformation and transformation processes - recognises the operational environment, the role of transport policy at international, national and local level, and the key actions for transformation in passenger and freight transport - recognises the skills needed in working in a multicultural setting and is able to communicate, contribute and co-operate effectively as a member of an multicultural group - is able to analyse the changes in the operational environment and the development outlook of transport and to analyse alternative scenarios and possible roadmaps for transport transformation - can implement methods of environmental scanning to present future outlook of transport.

1. The concept of transport transformation. Theories and frameworks related to transformation and transformation processes. The paradigm changes related to transport systems, e.g. from 'predict and provide' to 'sustainable mobility'.
2. Global scale of external effects of transport (fatalities and injuries, exhaust gas emissions, climate change, energy consumption), the concept of transport poverty
3. The needs for and the potential of sustainable and renewable energy and new transport concepts
4. The needs and challenges, drivers and retarding forces, enablers and obstacles, stakeholders and their positions, the status and the key actions for transformation in passenger and freight transport
