Learning Outcomes

There are two parts in the course. After the first part the students are familiar with the structure and the study modules of their study programme. The students are able to use the PSP tool and create a personal study plan. The students are able to use the university library as research source. The students are able to recognize the Finnish academic studying methods. In the latter part, the course starts the student's journey towards Master's Thesis. The course will help students to get acquainted with scientific research and writing of a research report in the management field. After completing the course, the student is familiar with the academic writing conventions (structure of the report, meaningful use of citations, etc.) used in the management field and is able to apply them in written reports. In addition, the student will be able to analyze scientific books and articles and compare the knowledge in different sources and organize the knowledge into a conceptual framework. (final grades 1-3). Conceptual framework not only defines the terms and managerial tools used in the research report as well as their interrelationships; a well-built theory framework also points out elegantly what is already known and whether there are areas with more information/knowledge needed. In addition to that, students are able to illustrate interrelationships of various concepts and the theory framework visually (final grades 4-5).
