Tavoitteet

- Advanced studies in Digital and Computer Electronics are focused on the design of equipment, which include processors and digital circuitry. Various computing applications are targeted,for example, in consumer electronics and telecommunications. The share of digital electronics has been continuously increasing. Entire systems can be integrated on a single chip with the advanced IC technologies, which is challenging on the designers. Knowledge of the design methods and skilled use of the tools is important.
- The advanced study module gives the student capabilities to understand the functionality of digital and computer systems, and to design new equipment using modern methods and design tools.
- Courses numbered beginning "TKT-1" are mainly focused on the design and technology of digital circuits, especially application specific integrated circuits (ASICs).
Courses numbered beginning "TKT-2" concentrate on the design, modeling, and optimization of digital systems, starting from requirements specification, and ending up with an implementation. A system may be, for example, a consumer electronics product with a variety of functions and features.
Courses numbered beginning "TKT-3" mainly cover computer architectures, including structures, analysis, optimization, implementations, and applications.

Esitietovaatimukset

There are no compulsory prerequisites, but the following courses or equivalent knowledge are recommended: TKT-1206 Digital Design I (4 cr.), TKT-1216 Digital Design II (5 cr.), TKT-1236 Digital Systems Laboratory (3 cr.), TKT-2206 Introduction to Digital Systems Design (4 cr.) and TKT-3206 Computer Architecture I (5 cr.).

Lisätiedot

Students writing their Master's thesis in Digital and Computer Electronics must complete the course TKT-1546 Digital and Computer Systems Thesis Seminar, 1 cr.

Following courses are also recommended as prerequisites:
KIE-3426 Thesis Writing in English, 4 cr.
KIE-3376 Technical Writing in English, 3 cr.

In this module, any course can be replaced with the
corresponding Finnish version that has the same first
three digits in the course number.
