Requirements

The common or individually planned project work and its reporting must be completed in an acceptable way.
Completion parts must belong to the same implementation

Learning Outcomes

The idea of the course is to introduce and develop skills in the use of software defined radio platforms for developing/testing/prototyping signal processing algorithms, transmitters and receivers. After successfully completing the course, a student will have the skills to utilize the LabVIEW/USRP software and hardware environment for developing communication signal processing algorithms and prototyping & testing transmission links in real-time with real RF modules and RF signals.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. Introduction to the LabVIEW graphical programming environment and to the USRP hardware. Including Matlab functions in the environment. Basic hands on training for real-time testing of algorithms and transmission links.
2. Develoment of the needed algorithms and system model for the target system in the LabVIEW/USRP environment. A common, generic transmission link model is offered as a target for the exercise. Alternatively, individual project topics may be defineded depending on the student's background and interests.
3. Implementation of algorithms on FPGA.
4. Laboratory exercises from ELT-43506 Communication Systems Laboratory Course may be included to develop needed RF measurement skills for the project.

Instructions for students on how to achieve the learning outcomes

Quality of the project work and laboratory exercise work and quality of the reporting of the project.

Assessment scale:

Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course

Partial passing:

Completion parts must belong to the same implementation
