Learning Outcomes

Student can describe physical properties of different body parts, like bones and muscles, and organ systems, like vascular and respiratory system. Student can describe physical phenomena related to the functioning of the body, body parts and essential organ system. Student can describe how the physical properties and functioning of the body can be measured. Student can solve simple physical problems of functioning of the human body.

Content

1. Mechanics and kinetics of the body.  Physics of joints. Modelling. Collions. Measurements. Gait analysis.   
2. Biomechanical properties and physics of loading of a bone. Muscle force.  Bone fractures. Measurements of bone and muscle force.   
3. Physics of metabolism and heat loss.  Energy sources and storages of energy of the body. Control of body temperature. Hypo- and hyperthermy. Measurements of body temperature and metabolism.   
4. Physics of pressures and flows in the body: cardiovascular and pulmonary system.  Physical models of the systems. Clinical recordings of the systems.   
5. Physics of senses: Sound, ear, and hearing. Light, eye, and vision.  Production of speech. Hearing defects. Seeing defects. Ultrasound applications.   
6. Bioelectric properties, phenomena and functioning of the body.  Modelling. Clinical measurements and applications.   

Instructions for students on how to achieve the learning outcomes

The final grade of the course is determined based on the assessment of all part of the course. The weighting factor of each part is given at the beginning of the course. Grades 1-2: Learning outcomes have been achieved. Satisfactory command in core content of the course. Grades 3-4: Some learning outcomes have been exceeded qualitatively or quantitatively. Good command in core content and complementary knowledge of the course. Good or very good marks from all parts of the course. Grade 5: Most of the learning outcomes have been exceeded. Deep command in the whole content of the course. Almost maximum performance in all parts of the course.

Assessment scale:

Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course

Partial passing:

Completion parts must belong to the same implementation
