Additional information

The group size is 26 students. When a course is over-subscribed, i.e. there are more sign-ups than places on the course, then we enrol the required number of students according to the following criteria: 1) students' position at TUT - students for whom the course is compulsory have priority, 2) the time of the sign-up. Students on the sign-up / waiting list have to be present on the first day of the course to be sure of retaining their place.

Requirements

Active participation in lectures (75% attendance), assignments and successful performance in all parts of the final examination.
Completion parts must belong to the same implementation

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to understand longer stretches of spoken Finnish on familiar topics, take the initiative in everyday communication situations, and will gain a firm command of the vocabulary needed for daily interaction. Students will be able to write simple, coherent texts and will become familiar with essential grammatical structures of Finnish.

Content

1. Vocabulary: expanding the previously learned vocabulary for daily interaction. New vocabulary for health and illnesses and sense verbs.     
2. Listening/speaking: improving spoken skills.   Taking the initiative in discussions.   
3. Reading: texts on different topics, with and without a dictionary.     
4. Writing: coherent narrative text and coherent descriptive text.     
5. Grammar: the perfect tense, the pluperfect tense and the use of tenses, the passive voice, the partitive plural and the object.     

Instructions for students on how to achieve the learning outcomes

To be able to take part in the final exam, students must attend 75% of the lessons and do all the course assingments. Course grade is based on the final exam which includes four subtests: speaking (25% of the grade), listening comprehension (25%), writing, grammar and vocabulary (25%) and reading comprehension (25%). Students must pass all the subtests to pass the course.

Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course
