Tampere Regional Solid Waste Management Ltd donates €50,000 to circular economy research
- The Board of Tampere Regional Solid Waste Management Ltd has decided to join the founding donors of the new Tampere University to help build bridges between research, teaching and practice. The University has established a strong reputation for conducting multidisciplinary research on circular economy. We are looking to support research that explores circular economy and resource efficiency especially from technological and business perspectives,” says Harri Kallio, CEO of Tampere Regional Solid Waste Management Ltd.
- The University has a great deal to offer to the development of our region’s waste management services as we are working to better understand our customers, reduce the environmental impact of waste and take circular economy to the next level to benefit society,“ Kallio emphasises.
Industrial side streams are not only waste but also a source of resources and raw materials that can be utilised to create added value. Researchers at Tampere University are, for example, developing processes that improve energy- and eco-efficiency, regenerate materials, conserve natural resources and reduce emissions. One of their goals is to recover nutrients and metals from industrial and domestic waste streams. Their research focuses on both molecular and large-scale processes.
- Circular economy has a key role in building sustainable societies as it helps mitigate climate change and protect biodiversity. We are committed to strengthening our multidisciplinary expertise and education in this field,” says President of Tampere University Mari Walls.
