Research focus and goals
The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated Tampere University as a WHO Collaborating Centre to support international research and knowledge translation on Health in All Policies and the social determinants of health. The Centre is led by Professor Meri Koivusalo and Research Director Lauri Kokkinen.
The WHO Collaborating Centre will have two main activity areas:
1. Advancing Health in All Policies
This activity will support WHO in the implementation of Health in All Policies across WHO regions. The skills and capacities in Tampere University help WHO in continually updating the HIAP framework to address social determinants of health and to develop guidance on sectoral implementation of HIAP in different government levels.
2. Addressing social determinants of health
This activity will support in addressing the social determinants of health and equity in the WHO Member States. The Member States need state of the art evidence on the social determinants from multiple disciplines and Tampere University will contribute to generating this evidence as well as linking it to available policies.
