After passing the course the student can Evaluate the irradiance of a scene and calculate the signal to noise ratio in the detection of an image or a light signal. Explain &nbsp;the physical and technical characteristics of filters, optical fibers, &nbsp;light sources and detectors available in the market.Explain the functionality and technical charasteristics of most common commercial optical imaging systems. Explain the different optical properties of biological tissues; on the mechanisms of interaction of light with biological tissues; and on the major medical applications of lasers and fiber optics.Explain the different biomedical photonic techniques and its applications in medicine and biology.

<h2>Prerequisites</h2>Basic knowledge in optics and instrumentation is recommended. <h2>Recommended Prerequisites</h2><ul><li>Optics, FYS.240, 5 cr</li></ul>
