KAT.VAST.206 Business, society and nature, Lectures 13.1.–3.3.2025 This is a lecture-based course. Lectures on Tampere University city campus. The dates of the spring lectures will be updated in the autumn of 2024. Please note that the lectures have a attendance requirement. You can be absent from class once. Absence is replaced by a separate task. Lecture courses have groupworks and teaching focuses on discussion. The students are required to attend and participate in the lectures, and submit/complete the class assignments provided by the teacher. Evaluation through final essay.

Course content: relationship between business, society and nature; Corporate sustainability; Environmental responsibility; Sustainability challenges and opportunities; The sustainability journey in organisations, The future of sustainability. Completion options: 1) Lecture course, which comprises participation in the lectures, and group and individual assignments; 2) Independent project, which comprises online assignments and a final essay, to be completed according to the students&#8217; own schedule.

The student understands the linkages between business, society and nature. The student comprehends the principles of corporate sustainability and environmental responsibility. The student recognises challenges and opportunities related to sustainability issues, such as climate change, scarcity of natural resources and biodiversity loss. The student is able to apply this knowledge to analyse and improve sustainability practices in business. The student is able to verbalise and reflect the acquired knowledge and the individual learning process.

<h2>Prerequisites</h2>We strongly recommend that student complete the recommended prerequisites, especially the Business ethics course. Students can participate this course after taking Business ethics or if they have basic knowledge of business ethics, CSR and stakeholders from other studies.<h2>Recommended Prerequisites</h2><ul><li>Sustainability Reporting, KAT.VAST.204, 5 cr</li><li>Business Ethics (Yritysetiikka), KAT.VAST.202, 5 cr</li></ul>
