Language requirements

When applying to a master’s programme at Tampere University, you must submit evidence of good command of the English language for academic purposes. You have two options for demonstrating your English language proficiency: language tests or previous studies. You must submit documentation as proof of language skills in both cases. Please see detailed instructions and additional information below. Starting with the master's degree programme intake for 2025, Tampere University has updated the list of countries from which you can prove your language proficiency with a university degree. See below for the new list of countries.

Language tests

The language test must be completed by the application deadline 3 January 2025. The results should be delivered to Tampere University as soon as the results are available. If you have already taken the test, please note that the test score must be valid at least until 3 January 2025. Please upload your language test result to the online application. Tampere University will verify all language test results online.

Be advised, you will need to book a language test well in advance. There might not be many test dates available, or they may get fully booked early.

Exemptions based on previous studies

An exemption from submitting a language test score is possible only based on the studies specified and listed by Tampere University that demonstrate your good command of the English language for academic purposes. If you are applying without a valid language test result, carefully examine the exemption criteria below. Only studies that fulfil the stated criteria will be accepted.

The language in which your degree was taught must be stated on your degree certificate, the official transcript of records, diploma supplement or other official document issued by the awarding institution. Detailed information concerning the studies and instructions on how and what documents to submit is listed below.
