In the introductory course, you will get:

  • the opportunity to explore the field and consider if it might be right for you
  • interesting and current content in the areas of robotics, 3D simulation, mechanical workshop technology, and industrial data
  • the chance to see and try out robots, metal machining, and 3D devices
  • visits to mechanical engineering companies
  • experience studying at a vocational school, university of applied sciences, and university
  • academic credits (study points)

What are mechanical engineering and robotics?

Mechanical engineering is a broad and evolving field that addresses the challenges of modern industry. It utilizes software-based calculation and design tools, automation, and modern production and manufacturing techniques.

Course Content

The introductory course includes preliminary studies and company visits. The teaching content includes independent theoretical studies, demonstration sessions, and an interesting day of visits to industry companies. Your studies are supported by skilled trainers and study guides.

  • Industry Company Visit Day

The course begins on with a joint afternoon session at the Paidia space in Nokia Arena on Monday, September 9th, 2024, at 3 PM. The event lasts 2-3 hours.

Studying Mechanical Engineering at TAMK

Learning Objectives

Upon completing the course, you will have an understanding of what studying in the Mechanical Engineering program at TAMK might be like. You will get a sample of selected mechanical engineering training content. You will grasp what a mechanical engineer could do in practice. You will familiarize yourself with TAMK's mechanical engineering learning environments.

Studying Robotics and Production Systems at Tampere University 

Learning Objectives

Upon completing the course, you will have an understanding of what studying Robotics and Production Systems at Tampere University entails. You will familiarize yourself with selected industrial robotics and production systems teaching content and learning environments. You will grasp the job tasks of a mechanical engineering Master's degree holder in the industry.

  • Teaching videos and related presentation materials
  • Selected sections from the book "Industrial Robotics" (application examples)

Implementation Method

  • Self-study on the DigiCampus platform. Videos, materials, and test tasks.
  • Visit to Tampere University's Hervanta campus to explore learning environments (RoboLab and HRC pilot line)
  • Short essay on the basics of production robotics (a more detailed assignment will be given. This task is intended to demonstrate university studies)

Studying Mechanical Engineering at TAKK

Learning Objectives

Upon completing the training module, you will understand the basics of technical drawing. You will be able to perform basic measurements and handle measuring instruments correctly. You will know the basic parameters and machining values of machining.

Industry Company Visit Day

Learning Objectives

After familiarizing yourself with companies and job tasks in the machine shop industry, you will have a general overview of the machine shop industry in Pirkanmaa and the career opportunities it offers.

Content

  • Introduction to machine shop industry and job tasks

Implementation Method

  • Preliminary tasks and reporting before and after the visit on the DigiCampus platform
  • The visit is a full-day event, no remote option
  • Start and return at the "Kohtaamisia" space in Finlayson
  • Bus transport to industry companies
  • Includes breakfast and lunch
  • The event is organized by Engineering Academy

Estimated Time Commitment

  • Tasks 4 hours
  • Visits 7 hours including breaks

Target Group

The training is suitable for individuals interested in robotics and mechanical engineering who want to explore educational opportunities in the field. 30 participants will be selected for the training.

The primary target group for the training are:

  • individuals in atypical employment (no permanent and full-time employment)

Funding

The training has been funded by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), which is the key instrument of the EU's Recovery Facility (NextGenerationEU). The financing has been granted by the Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment

The Service Centre promotes the competence development of working-age people and the availability of skilled labour. The operations of the Service Centre are overseen by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.
