Learning Outcomes

After completing the course, students will have the necessary basic knowledge of aerobic and anaerobic biological treatment processes. They will master the basic principles, terminology, reactor configurations, and related calculations of both processes as well as sludge management.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. Outlines of the basic principles of aerobic and anaerobic biological wastewater treatment processes  Knowledge of the basic principles of the processes
2. Reactor design, configuration, and operation of aerobic and anaerobic biological wastewater treatment processes.  Knowledge of the techniques used in design and operation
3. Outlines of the dynamics of biological wastewater treatment processes   Knowledge of the metabolic processes, microbial dynamics, mass balance, and kinetics.
4. Sludge management  Knowledge of sludge treatment and disposal methods

Instructions for students on how to achieve the learning outcomes

Students' understanding of the course material is evaluated based on exams and exercises. The course also offers optional external Bonus work, usually a short assay. There are two half-exams (at middle and end of the course) as well as a final exam at the end of the course. Students can choose which exams they want to take. All exams are Electronic. To pass the course with a grade of 1, the student will have to score at least 50 % of the maximum points in the exam. A good understanding of the core content will earn the student a grade of 3. In order to earn a grade of 4 or 5, the student will have to have a good or excellent understanding of complementary knowledge.

Assessment scale:

Numerical evaluation scale (0-5)

Partial passing:

Completion parts must belong to the same implementation
