Learning Outcomes

After finishing the course, the student is able to specify the purposes of the packaging of different products. He/she is able to identify demands that different products place on the packaging materials and packages and how different materials and packages comply with these demands. The student understands the interactions between the packaging material, packed product and surrounding environment and how these interactions affect on quality and safety of packed product. The student is also able to compare different material and package alternatives in relation to their technical, economic and environmental efficiency in the life cycle of the package. The course comprises lectures, a group work and laboratory work and the competence of the student is evaluated by exams and performance in the group work and laboratory. The course improves students understanding of scientific thinking, reasoning and explanation. He/she also learns to take responsibility for his/her actions and consequences of those actions. The course also helps the student to identify local and global issues related to sustainable development in the field of packaging materials. That the student can pass the course he/she has to be able to use information and communications technology.
