Positioning and Navigation, 30 cr |
Type of the study block
Int. MSc Major Studies
Contact
Robert Piche, Jussi Collin, Markku Renfors, Jarmo Takala
Learning outcomes
- | After completing the study block, the student will be able to |
- | - compute the navigation solution (position, velocity, time) using satellite signals and other navigation sensors |
- | - select the most suitable navigation system or method given the environmental restrictions and accuracy requirements |
- | - identify the main error sources of navigation systems and evaluate and characterize the accuracy of the navigation solution |
- | - design navigation hardware and algorithms for different environments |
- | - understand the effects of the radio propagation environment in radio signal based positioning techniques |

Additional information
Positioning and navigation applications are rapidly growing in numbers, and there is an increasing demand of professional engineers in this field. This study block gives both theoretical and practical knowledge of navigation technologies and applications, including satellite-based systems (GPS, Galileo, etc.) and non-satellite techniques such as inertial navigation.
