At Tampere Universities, MFDs are available for printing, copying and scanning. MFDs are available to all students and staff, who can log in using their TUNI username or TUNI email address. Students are charged for printing and copying, but scanning is free. Students can print from TUNI computers or personal devices.   

Students can refill their print quota via the print portal at print.tuni.fi.    

Seamless services across multiple campuses  

  • You can use the MFDs located on all the campuses of Tampere Universities.  

  • All MFDs offer a uniform and modern user experience.  

  • The same printing policy is enforced throughout Tampere Universities   

  • View the locations of MFDs: 

To authenticate your identity at campus MFDs, you may use any of the following:  

  • student card  

  • staff ID card issued by Tampere Universities  

  • Other RFID cards (such as Nysse travel cards for local public transportation)  

  • Spider ID mobile application  

Printing from computers owned by Tampere University or TAMK  

  1. On the computer - Choose a printer named with “SecurePrint”. The print server address is print-dre.ad.tuni.fi  

  1. On the MFD - When you use the device for the first time: Register your ID card (such as your student card) or the Spider ID mobile application on the MFD and log in with your TUNI email address and password. After you have registered, you can authenticate simply by using your ID card or the mobile application.  

  1. On the MFD screen, select “Print-to-me”.  

  1. Select the print jobs you want to print and select “Print”.  

  1. Select “Log out” to finish.    

Printing from your personal computer or mobile device  

  1. Upload the file you need to print to the print portal print.tuni.fi.  

  1. Log in with your TUNI email address and password.  

  1. Click Browse to find the file that you need to print.  

  1. Select your preferred printer settings and click “Print”.  

  1. Release your print job from any of the MFDs on campus.  

Setting up a print queue on a TUNI computer   

If you cannot find the print queue on a TUNI computer, you can set up the print queue yourself. 

  1. If you are not in campus network, activate TUNI VPN.
  2. Open TUNI TOOLS -folder from the desktop. 
  3. Doubleclick MapPrinter-SecurePrint.cmd

Alternatively set up a print queue by pressing Windows button + R and enter the print queue address \\print-dre.ad.tuni.fi\SecurePrint in the Run window that opens and click OK.    

Printing from a staff TUNI-Mac computer  

  1. On the computer - Choose a printer named with “SecurePrint”.  

  1. Log in with your TUNI username and password.  

  1. Release your print job from any of MFDs on campus.   

Setting up a print queue on a staff TUNI-Mac computer 

  1. Setup the package tuni-printers-secureprint from Intelligent Hub. You can find Intelligent Hub from Applications folder and with Spotlight search (CMD+Space combination).   

Scanning  

  1. Swipe your ID card on the MFD card reader to log in.  

  1. Select Scan-to-Me or Scan-to-Me (OCR).  

  1. Scan-to-Me allows you to scan an image of your document to your email.  

  1. With Scan-to-Me (OCR), you can convert your scanned document into an editable file.  

  1. Select your preferred settings; we recommend four-colour scanning regardless of the colours of your document.    

Printing to a Desktop Printer 

There are desktop printers in individual locations for special needs. Printers do not have security printing, but each printer has its own print queue.  

Adding a desktop printer print queue: 

1. Press the Windows button + R on your computer keyboard. 

2. In the Run window that opens, enter the print queue address \\print-dre.ad.tuni.fi\printer serial number

  • You can see the serial number of the printer on the sticker glued to the printer. 

3. Click OK.
