Christmas concert of all times is guaranteed to raise the Christmas spirit
– Now we can probably talk about tradition, after all, this is our third Christmas concert, says Markus Yli-Jokipii, conductor of the concert and lecturer in choral conducting at TAMK.
The idea for a joint Christmas gathering originally came from school pastor Jussi Houttu. He asked Yli-Jokipii if TAMK Music would be eager to start building the event.
– We were, and so much so that it got a bit out of hand, Yli-Jokipii laughs.
All lines of TAMK Music from classical music to choirs and musical artist training will be represented at the concert. The concert will be diverse, spectacular and evoke the joy of youth. Guest choirs are a new thing this year: performances include the Kaustinen Music High School Chamber Choir and Tampere Cappella. An important partner is Mediapolis, which handles the concert streaming, lighting and sound system. The concert will be streamed to Yle Areena.
The concert is free and open to everyone. In addition to TAMK's students and staff, other audiences have embraced the event well. The cathedral has been filled almost to the brim, so it is advisable to arrive well in advance. Before the concert, the mood is raised with the Most Beautiful Christmas Carols singing session, so there is no need to sit around while waiting.
This concert has it all: the peace of Christmas, the joy of singing, the twinkle of bright stars – the soft twilight of the church. Traditional, beloved tunes and fresh, skillful interpretations. Everyone is cordially welcome to a joint celebration.
