Innovation management theme area
Objectives
We aim to lead in innovation management by focusing on two primary areas:
- Researching the current essentials of sustainable innovation management, the culture that fosters such management, and the strategies necessary for its realisation.
- Increasing our understanding of how to innovate in ways that maintain and strengthen a company’s position in the market, and expanding our grasp of the key questions that identify the most timely problems to solve.
Our goals extend to fostering a supportive environment for innovation. This includes supporting people and their ideas in the early stages and managing operational aspects towards the end of the innovation process. Thus, our definition of innovation management encompasses both human and operational leadership.
Given the critical reviews of innovation management from a sustainability perspective in recent years, which link it with non-sustainable ecological and social impacts. We aim to shift the discourse towards sustainable innovation management or simply sustainable management. We want to ensure that we at TAMK do not only contribute to bold innovations, but also play a significant role in supporting and leading sustainable practices within the higher education sector and beyond.
Innovation management requires different kinds of management at different stages of innovation. If leadership is seen as leading things, its time is at the end of the innovation process. At the beginning of the innovation process, management is more about supporting people and their ideas, and creating favourable conditions and encounters.
