TAMK's RDI theme areas

The starting point for our research and development activities is global responsibility and climate change mitigation. We produce solutions in areas of green and just transition that combine the strong competence areas of Tampere University of Applied Sciences with the changing needs of society. We have selected eight thematic areas to contribute to a green and just transition.

Green Transition

Towards a carbon-negative economy

The Green Transition theme is in line with the European Green Deal, which will transform Europe into a competitive, climate-neutral economy by 2050. Finland's goal is to be carbon neutral by 2035 and carbon negative soon after.

In TAMK's green transition theme areas, we produce new technologies and ecological innovations to promote green transition.

Digitalisation

Digitalisation is used to change and enhance the processes and operations of society. We promote the utilisation of digitalisation in applied research, especially in interdisciplinary projects.

Sustainability

We develop solutions and business models based on the circular economy. We help companies and communities in the green transition. We respond proactively to energy, material, and market transformation.

Industrial Management

We develop products, processes, systems, business operations and management in industrial production and construction so that technical, economic, ecological, and social aspects are considered in a balanced manner.

Just Transition

The Just Transition theme responds to another key objective of the European Green Deal, which is to move towards a climate-neutral economy in a socially fair and inclusive way.

Finland's goal is that no one is left behind in the green and digital transitions, and that the transition promotes social equality and human rights. Read more about the Just Transition Goal on the European Commission's website.

At TAMK, we produce continuous learning, pedagogy and guidance that renews working life in the theme areas of Just Transition and respond to the sociocultural challenges of society.

Pedagogy

We develop the quality of teaching and learning in educational institutions, organisations and communities. We study how pedagogy can best support learning and inclusion in different environments.

Resilient society

We develop a resilient society in cooperation with working life in the health and social services sector. A resilience approach in health and social care promotes sustainability and strengthens the functioning of society in varying circumstances.

Knowledge management and data-driven solutions

We promote the analysis and use of data as a knowledge-based management tool. We develop solutions based on data and artificial intelligence to improve the efficiency of operations in various industries.

Cross-cutting themes

Innovation management

We study what kind of innovation management is needed today, a culture that promotes innovation management, and what kind of strategy is needed for the implementation of innovation management.

Creative economy

The creative economy combines art, technology and business in a new, innovative way. It supports the growth of national economies, promotes sustainable development, improves employment and creates a quality of life through cultural products and services.
