Objectives

- The advanced study module in Communications Engineering is intended to give the student capabilities to understand the key techniques of the chosen focus area as used in today's and future communication systems, together with related design methodologies and design tools.
- This advanced study module has a wide scope, encompassing different basic technologies needed in today's broadband wireless communication systems. Broad coverage of basic level courses is recommended, but the advanced studies should be focused in one of the following three areas: 1. Communication Networks and Protocols: Networking aspects of the Internet, especially protocols and mechanisms related to routing, quality of service, and security. 2. Wireless Communications: System level view to signals and signal processing techniques in wireless transmission links: Digital transmission techniques, signal processing in receivers and transmitters. Wireless system level view: radio resource management, radio network planning. 3. RF Communication Circuits: Analog circuit design for wireless communications equipment; main emphasis on RF ASIC development.

In Communications Engineering students should specialize in one of the three focus areas by choosing the corresponding course package. The pre-requisites for different focus area as follows: COMMUNICATION NETWORKS AND PROTOCOLS: OHJ-1156 Programming II 5 cr, TLT-2106 Basic Course on Networking 5 cr. WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS: SGN-1107 Introductory Signal Processing 4 cr, TLT-5206 Communication Theory 5-7 cr, TLT-6106 Basic Course on Wireless Communications 5 cr. RF COMMUNICATION CIRCUITS: TLT-5206 Communication Theory 5-7 cr, TLT-8107 Basic Communication Circuits-2 7 cr. ( Obligatory )
