Tampere University hosts its second conferment of doctoral degrees on 6-8 June 2025
The conferment of doctoral degrees is intended for all doctoral graduates from the new Tampere University and from the university’s predecessors, Tampere University of Technology and the University of Tampere, who have not yet participated in a conferment ceremony. To attend, you must have completed your doctoral degree by the end of January 2025. Registration for the event will open in December 2024.
The Conferment Committee manages the preparations for the ceremony:

The ceremonial conferment of doctoral degrees is the most prestigious of academic celebrations and a time-honoured tradition dating back centuries. The proceedings of the doctoral conferment of Tampere University combine elements of the ceremonial practices followed in the two predecessor institutions. Tampere University hosted its first conferment ceremony in August 2022.

The ceremonial conferment of doctoral degrees is a solemn occasion where the conferees receive doctoral hats as a symbol of academic freedom. Additionally, except for those with a Doctor of Science in Technology degree, conferees are presented with doctoral swords. The conferees are responsible for obtaining their own doctoral hats and doctoral swords. We recommend placing your order for a doctoral hat well in advance as the hats are custom-made and involve a great deal of time-consuming handwork. Conferees who prefer not to buy a doctoral hat and a doctoral sword can borrow them.
