Alberto Brihuega Garcia and Niklas Vaara awarded for their theses on signal processing
The awards were given based on the significance and quality of the research in their respective fields. The criteria for the awards included the importance of the problem addressed, theoretical and practical contributions, research methodology, and time needed for their work. The winners were selected by a committee led by Professor Ari Visa from Tampere University, with members from various other Finnish universities.
Alberto Brihuega Garcia is a doctoral researcher at Tampere University’s faculty of Information Technology and Communications. His doctoral dissertation was titled "Digital Predistortion Solutions for Large Antenna Array Transmitters ”. Garcia was awarded for his significant contributions in addressing key challenges in modern communication systems.
Niklas Vaara is a doctoral researcher at the University of Oulu. His Master Thesis titled "Tools for Ray Tracing Based Radio Channel Modeling and Simulation" is a relevant study in the field of wireless network development.
The winners were announced at the IEEE Finland SP/CAS annual event in Tietotalo at Hervanta campus on Monday 11 December 2023. The annual event celebrates research and innovation in relevant areas that advance digital technologies.
Next year the competition is planned to be expanded to a Scandinavian-level.
“This celebration not only honors individual achievements but also reinforces the collective pursuit of scientific excellence in the field of signal processing and circuits and systems,” says Ari Visa.
