Information science succeeds in QS Ranking again – All broad subject areas of Tampere University are included
QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 listed subjects from some 1,600 higher education institutions. The institutions are ranked across five broad subject areas and more specific subjects, of which QS listed 54 this year.
Tampere University received a published score in all the broad subject areas. As previously, the best performer was Engineering and Technology which came in the 348th place. Medicine and Life Sciences were in the 383rd place and Natural Sciences in the 385th place. Arts and Humanities placed within the range of 401–450 and Social Sciences and Economics among the 500 best universities.
Information science continues at the top of the world
QS Ranking divides broad subject areas into more specific subjects. Tampere University’s Library and Information Management continues to do as well as in the recent years as it came into the 18th place in the world. Communication and Media Studies placed among the best one hundred. Education was the third best performer at Tampere University, ranked in the category of 151–200.
Of the fields in Engineering and Technology, electrical and electronic engineering was placed among the 250 best subjects. Computer science and information systems continue in the group of 300 best and so does materials science.
Tampere University’s psychology was ranked among the 250 best in its field.
QS Ranking’s indicators are academic reputation, the reputation of graduates among employers, research citations and the impact and quality of scientific publishing. Last year, QS introduced a new indicator in the broad fields of science that measures international research activities and connections (International Research Network indicator).
QS Ranking is carried out by the independent QS Quacquarelli Symonds organisation.
