&nbsp;This page describes the functions of the Sisu “Structure of studies” section and provides instructions on creating a study plan in Sisu.The study plan functions will be updated during the fall of 2024, so this guide will be updated and supplemented. At the same time, the structure and contents of Sisu instructions will be improved and clarified. The locations of the instructions may thus change.&nbsp;<h2>General notes</h2>The “Structure of studies” section and study plan are at the core of Sisu. You’ll find most of the functions of Sisu through the study plan, and you need to create a study plan to register for courses and graduate. The plan you create and your choices will be visible in other sections of Sisu: Timeline, Registration, and Study calendar.Your study plan is based on your study right, and Sisu guides you in selecting the courses that are part of your degree or studies.&nbsp;<h2>Functions and instructions</h2>&nbsp;

&nbsp;Creating a study planLog in to Sisu and click on the “Structure of studies” section in the top menu.<ul><li>For your first study plan: Choose your education and the curriculum period from the modal that opens. If needed, select a learning opportunity. Name your plan.</li><li>For subsequent study plans: Click the “New study plan” button. Choose your education and the curriculum period from the modal that opens. If needed, select a learning opportunity. Name your plan.</li><li>Click the “Create a plan” button. Sisu will retrieve the structure of the selected education as the basis for your plan. Name your study plans in a way that distinguishes them from each other.&nbsp;Managing a study planYou can change the study plan you are viewing from the menu that opens through the plan’s name.In the top right corner of the Structure of studies view, there’s also a three-dot menu. Creating and Managing a Study Plan

&nbsp;When creating a new study plan, the Structure of studies view shows you the overall structure of the plan, including the mandatory study modules and courses that are automatically selected. The view also displays the status of your choices for each module and guides you in selecting the required studies.By clicking on the headings visible in the plan, a selection assistant opens on the right side of the screen. Through this assistant, you can modify your plan’s selections. The assistant provides information on the types and amounts of studies that need to be chosen according to the curriculum. For more extensive changes to the plan, you can use the free edit mode, see separate instructions on editing and approving changes.&nbsp;Do as follows<ul><li>Review the plan section by section by clicking on the name of the module or heading. You can hide or show the content of a section by clicking the arrow button.</li><li>Check the selection assistant that opens on the right to see guidelines and rules for choosing studies.</li><li>Select courses and modify choices:<ul><li>For elective studies: Add or remove courses by toggling the switch.</li><li>For free choice studies: Add using the search field, remove by clicking the trash bin icon next to the course.</li><li>For previously completed courses not visible in the plan: Add them using the “Add to the plan” function on the left or through free edit mode. You can select the completion method either through the Structure of studies view by clicking on the course box or via the course brochure, which you can open by clicking on the course code (e.g., from the study plan or selection assistant). Selecting studies to the plan

&nbsp;You can make larger changes to your study plan in the free edit mode.In this mode, you can, for example add courses and modules to the plan that are not originally defined within it and remove courses and modules that are marked as mandatory in the structure.To access the free edit mode select the relevant part of your plan and click the three dot menu in the upper right corner of the selection assistant that opens on the right side.Keep in mind that using the free edit mode will result in a deviating degree structure. Any changes made require approval. You can apply for approval by clicking the button available in the upper part of the selection assistant. Other functions

&nbsp;1. How do I know when my study plan is completed?A study plan is complete when all the sections of the structure are marked "selections done" or "selections approved".Then the plan follows the rules and requirements that have been set for the structure in question. However, note that Sisu is not always able to interpret the specifications and details that have been set, for example, in the more detailed guiding information of each section. Studies can be planned in parts, and the plan does not have to be finished all at once. The system saves the plan automatically.&nbsp;2. What does the state of a study plan or a module mean?When you are drafting a study plan, Sisu may give you various announcements and it shows you the state of selections of a part or module. These have been described in the following table:&nbsp;<table><thead><tr><th>System Announcement</th><th>Explanation</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>"Selections missing"</td><td>There are courses or study modules missing from the plan.&nbsp;</td></tr><tr><td>"Optional selections"</td><td>The section allows you to choose courses or study modules according to rules set for the degree.&nbsp;</td></tr><tr><td>"The structure of the study plan is against the rules. Please correct your selections.""Selections against the rules."</td><td>The plan includes selections that are against the rules or the basic structure of the degree. This announcement appears when something that does not belong to the structure is added to the degree.</td></tr><tr><td>"Approval required"</td><td>The module content must be verified before graduation is possible. Apply for verification through the right side window after making the selections.</td></tr></tbody></table>3. What should I note when updating my personal study plan (PSP) after taking a break in studies?Update your PSP independently and follow the guidelines below. If you have taken a longer break from studies, we recommend you book a study guidance appointment to update your PSP. In that case, contact&nbsp; <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/students-guide/handbook/uni/planning-studies-and-study-guidance/guidance-and-counselling-services-contact-details/guidance-and-counselling-services-faculties-contact-information">your faculty’s academic guidance and counselling services</a>.Do the following when you independently update your PSP:<ol><li>Begin by finding out if you can update your existing PSP or whether it would make sense to create a new one.<ol><li>You may update your existing PSP if your study plan in Sisu has been drafted according to the curriculum for the academic year of 2020–2021 or a later year. You will find the curriculum year in the first line after the title of your PSP, before information on editing, for example, “Studies in civil engineering (civil engineering, 2020-2021, edited on 11 Jan. 2021, created on 11 Jan. 2021.</li><li>If it is worth your while, or you must create a new study plan if there is no PSP in your Sisu that accords with the curriculum for the academic year 2020–2021 or a later year.</li></ol></li><li>If you can update an existing PSP, do the following:<ol><li>Check whether the curriculum period of your degree programme has changed between creating your study plan and this academic year. The University’s curriculum periods have been 2020–2021 and 2021–2024, after which the periods have mainly been in place for three years.</li><li>If the curriculum period has not changed, do the following:<ol><li>Check that your existing PSP accords with your goals and update it if necessary.</li><li>Before registering for course units, choose their completion methods. If you cannot find any teaching in a completion method:<ol><li>Check whether there is a more updated version of the course unit</li><li>The course unit is not implemented. Check the additional info of the course unit.
